“Red Dresses” by Dave Jay – Campaign To Raise Awareness For Women’s Heart Health

Get your red dresses on!

February is Women’s Heart Health Month, and Go Red for Women is an initiative started by the American Heart Association for awareness of women and heart disease.

Dave Jay of Insightful Entertainment, in coordination with Charles Nolan Boutique and Ghylian Bell of The Urban Yoga Foundation and the Foundation House proudly present the results of  their “Get Your Red Dresses On!” event/video shoot to help raise awareness of women’s heart health issues, held on Thursday, February 9th, from 6-9PM at Charles Nolan Boutique, 30 Gansevoort Street (at Hudson), NYC.

New York songwriter/performer Dave Jay was inspired to contribute to the cause in recognition of the heart attack which befell his grandmother, and wrote a song called “Red Dresses” to help spread the word that women’s symptoms show differently than in men, and just what those symptoms are.

Women of all ages were encouraged to express themselves by donning their red dresses to appear in a video for the song, which was shot at the event, (gifted by Evan Seplow of Image Factory).  For those red-dressless, there were some red dresses at Charles Nolan Boutique for you to try on.  Women all over the country were invited to participate by taking pictures/videos modeling their own red dresses, and were encouraged to  send the footage in for inclusion in the video.  Most notably, Nathalie Malpica of Life Reel Productions in Boca Raton, FL contributed footage from her event and Karen Mazowiecki and her colleagues at Fourteenth Avenue School in NJ created their own special lesson plans to share with us.

In addition to the video shoot, Ghylian Bell spoke from a platform of prevention with special attention to young people, Dr. Ira Blaufarb, Dr. Donna Ingram and Nurse Dawn Howard of Park East Cardiolvascular, NYC, provided valuable and insightful information, and refreshments were served, courtesy of Bill “Tish” Tisherman of wineforall.com.

While this is an independent venture, The American Heart Association, has graciously offered to share the new video via Twitter and their Facebook page, and Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, attending Cardiologist and Director of Women & Heart Disease at Lenox Hill Hospital has served as a chief source of inspiration for the song and project.
